Wall Art Size & Frame Guide

A print should feel intentional in your room. Compare common wall art sizes by measuring your space, then choose the format that suits the way you want to display it.

This guide covers the two artwork sizes in the current Lucid Dreams print collection. Portrait designs are 12 × 16 or 18 × 24 inches; landscape artwork uses the same proportions turned horizontally. Check the orientation and size description on the individual product before ordering.

12 × 16 or 18 × 24: which size should you choose?

Both rectangles use the same scale. The larger print is 1.5 times as wide and tall, with 2.25 times the artwork area. This is a measurement diagram, not a room mockup.

Measure the space before choosing

  1. Measure the clear wall area. Include nearby shelves, switches, doors and furniture that could compete with the print.
  2. Make a paper outline. Mark a 12 × 16 or 18 × 24 inch rectangle on paper and place it where you plan to hang the artwork. Rotate it for a landscape design.
  3. Step back to your normal viewing position. Check the outline from your chair, desk or room entrance. Leave enough breathing room for the composition to stand out.
  4. Allow for the frame. The diagram shows artwork size. A frame adds to the exterior dimensions; check the frame specifications before measuring the final wall placement.

Framed vs unframed art prints

Choose a framed print when you want the artwork and frame supplied together. Current framed prints use a black wood frame with an Acrylite front protector and included hanging hardware. They are paper art prints, not canvas.

Choose an unframed print when you already own a suitable frame or want to select your own finish. Unframed prints do not include a frame or hanging hardware. If you plan to add a mount or mat board, check its opening and the frame size as well as the print dimensions.

The formats have different material specifications. For example, the Courtyard print uses 189 gsm matte paper unframed and 260 gsm matte paper in its framed version. The individual listing is the reference for the exact materials and dimensions of the option you buy.
